Samuel Lambert was born in St. Louis Missouri in 1909. He began his
career in show business as a chorus boy with the St. Louis Municipal
Opera. After five years he was made stage manager for the opera
company. In 1939 he began a long association with Michael Todd, staging
first "The Hot Mikado", and he continued as general stage manager for
Todd's long series of Broadway hits, in 1944 overseeing five Todd
shows, "The Would-Be Gentleman," "Hamlet", "Up in Central Park",
"Mexican Hayride" and "January Thaw." In 1947 Mr. Lambert struck out on
his own as a producer. His shows included "Hold It" starring Red
Buttons; "All of Love" with Bert Wheeler and the Hartmans; and the hit
musical version of Booth Tarkington's "Seventeen."
