Hedges was born in Brooklyn Heights, New York, the second child of poet and actressSusan Bruceand Oscar-nominated screenwriter and directorPeter Hedges.He began regularly appearing in major films in the early 2010s, with his role as "Redford" in Wes Anderson'sMoonrise Kingdom (2012),as well asKill the Messenger (2014),Lady Bird (2017),andThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017).
