Astor Kim-Stark is a Korean-American film director, writer, and producer born in Daegu, South Korea. She spent her childhood between both Asia and the United States, having first come to the U.S. by way of the Philippines as one of the 75,000 evacuees displaced from the Mt. Pinatubo volcanic eruption. She later returned to Korea for her secondary education before returning back to the United States for university.
Astor is a two-time Mentee of Ryan Murphy's HALF Directing Initiative (2024 & 2019), a semi-finalist of the Academy Nicholl Fellowship (2020), and participated in the Academy Gold Diverse Initiative (2020). Her short films have participated in multiple Oscar-Qualifying Festivals, with "Stealth" qualifying for Oscars voting (2020).
Astor attended university at the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts earning her M.F.A. in Film & Television Production.
