Trivia
The character's name "Cal Trask" is the same as a main character from John Steinbeck's classic novel "East of Eden," famously portrayed by James Dean in the 1955 film version.

Goofs
When Patrick is playing blackjack at the low stakes table, the dealer uses a "shoe" which holds multiple decks of cards. But when he moves to the high stakes table with a minimum of $1,000 per bet, the dealer is dealing cards directly from her hands. No properly-run casino would allow this inconsistently. If anything, the casino would reserve the shoe for the high stakes tables only to avoid the very fraud that Patrick identified.

The Severed Hand

When a severed hand is found on the border of California and Nevada, Teresa Lisbon and her team are assigned to investigate the case. Soon they identify the hand of the manager of the Calida Casino James Meier and interview his dysfunctional family. Then Lisbon and Jane head to the casino, where they are received by the chief of security Matt Etienne that gives the surveillance tape to them. Patrick decides to play and wins a large amount and learns that the dealer Alexandra is cheating. Further, the whale Carl Trask is also included in the long list of suspects. Soon, Patrick decides to play cards in a selective room and set a trap to catch the killer.

"Red-Handed" is an interesting episode of "The Mentalist" with many suspects. The witty Patrick Jane, as usual, solves the case with the support of Teresa Lisbon and her team. The destination of the money made by gambling is nice. My vote is eight.
