In a statement attributed to “the Lgbtqia+ employees of Pixar, and their allies,” Pixar team members alleged that Disney executives have demanded to cut “nearly every moment of overtly gay affection…regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar.”

The Pixar letter is a direct response to Chapek’s March 4 memo, which promised that the “biggest impact we can have in creating a more inclusive world is through the inspiring content we produce.” Disney employees previously criticized the company’s inaction regarding the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, saying that “silence is unacceptable” and is a devastating corporate stance.

As seems to be the case every awards season, this year’s Oscar nominations for Best Original Score overlooked a veritable symphony of rich and adventurous movie music, from the medieval hum ofDaniel Hart’s work on “The Green Knight”to the organ partitas thatJonny Greenwoodleant to “Spencer.”And yet, despite the usual array of inexplicable snubs, all five of the scores nominated for the Academy Award this year are absolutely excellent — a dramatic (and very welcome) change of pace from recent editions of this category.

“Dune”marks a return to form for an ultra-prolific legend who reliably does his best work on movies capable of matching the bombast he always brings to them. “Don’t Look Up”offers another chance to celebrate a rising star in this field, his latest score bringing a sense of elegance and cohesion to a satire that falls a bit short on both.

Adam McKayis set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Feb. 17 — that is, if his demands can be met.

“We’re negotiating because I want mine to be one giant star in the middle of the whole intersection and they’re kind of fighting us on it,” McKay says. “So we’re going to see what happens.”

McKay is kidding (we think) and the Oscar, BAFTA and Emmy winner will soon add the star to his long list of accolades. It comes at a prime time for the filmmaker and producer; his latest movie “Don’t Look Up”just secured four Academy Award nominations, while his new HBO series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty”hits the air next month. BAFTA has unveiled the longlists across all categories for its 2022 Film Awards. Scroll down to see them in full.

These lists have been compiled via Round One of BAFTA’s voting. Round Two, which determines the nominations, opens on January 14 and closes on January 27.

The Rising Star Award nominations will be announced on February 1. The full nominations will then be unveiled February 3. Round Three, to determine the winners, runs February 9 – March 8. The 2022 BAFTA Film Awards take place March 13, with a physical ceremony planned.

We’ve reached the end of August, and on Friday of this coming week, Disney Plus will drop a haul of new content to welcome in the new month. The next batch of movies and TV shows added to the streaming service’s library includes a few classic films, some fresh TV episodes and one of the most notable straight-to-streaming releases of the whole year.

This is, of course,Mulan,the live-action remake of the 1998 animated classic. The film was originally set to hit theaters back in March, but it was pulled due to the pandemic. With cinemas still not fully up and running again, Disney has elected to make the groundbreaking decision to release the Liu Yifei-starring movie on Disney Plus – albeit via a new Premiere Access level, meaning audiences have to spend $29.99 to watch it.

The late-night host came up with an inventive game to play over Zoom with the two comedians and six of his “Late Late Show” staffers, called “What’s In My Lap, a Petora Pillow?”

The comedians took turns grilling each of the staffers, who they could only see from the waist up, with questions about their potential pet. Then, they had to decide which of the three were holding pets, and which three were lying.

Broadway will remain closed through June 7, a two-month extension of the current coronavirus shutdown that would seem to retroactively end the 2019-2020 Broadway season with the March 12 shutdown.

The extension announcement was made today by the Broadway League, the trade group representing theater owners and producers, which had been in discussions with theatrical unions this week.

No mention was made in the League’s announcement of officially closing the Broadway season – theoretically, at least, the 2019-2020 season could be extended but the logistics would seem to make that an unlikely option.
