The Big Bang Theory(2007)
Interesting, Comical and Inspirational.
While, I admit my love for science did not reach a peak where I could actually become a scientist. I have adored the banter, sarcasm and social depictions the show has portrayed. To add, the idea of social out-cast turn into the cool-kids factor carried out into adult-hood which makes it totally worth the watch. While it's true that I may not have 100 and above IQ. I love the idea of how the probability of their friendship was shaped and seemingly predestined from the get-go of it's story. Sheldon and Leonard, although at odds have developed a very interesting chemistry that cannot be disregarded. I'd say if you're looking for something out-of-this world, Big Bang is definitely the show for you.
Also, the only reason my rating is 9/10 is mostly because it's not a show everyone can entirely relate. So that 1% is for those who aren't fans of science and the arts. But, if you do take a leap of faith and watch. You'd enjoy the interpersonal relationships development in the show.
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves(2023)
A Roll of a Dice Encounter
As a first time player of Dungeons and Dragons, I'm pleased to share how much of a blast I had watching. Like many of those who have left a review before me, my take here does not veer away from what has already been said. In this case, I merely wish to share how much I enjoyed the dark humor and fascinating relationships the story has built around as it follows through the original rules of the game and how it felt watching a fantasy and still feel like am watching a set of players playing together in a campaign without showing it on obvious grounds of reality. Way to go on keeping that magic!
Hayop ka!(2020)
A Rocketsheep exceptional
As what reviewer Artsmart stated. Hayop Ka! (You Animal!) is exactly stands out as a note worthy "visual feast". and in addition to this, I would like to sincerely congratulate the makers of this animation. It is truly a great work of art, following "Saving Sally". Who would have thought they'd actually release yet, another amazing show. Not to mention, The casting and dubbing for the voices of this was truly exceptional. Although, it is not an animation that can be for all ages. It is a true treat for both Film and animation enthusiast of legal age. If our entertainment could release shows in such feat, I am looking forward to more of these. Please watch Hayop Ka! and support our local art industry.
Sing lek lek tee reak wa rak(2010)
A Story about love and coming of age
While it's been years since it's release. I've only managed to find the time to write a review about this right now. Watching this movie made from Thailand makes me happy to see how inspiring love can be for the youth to love freely. Watching Nam grow up into a lovely young lady, determined to grow closer into love while fulfilling her duties as a daughter to her family.
I'm happy to say that this was definitely a worth while watch. Not to mention the interesting transitions of how her transformation from a young girl into a lovely young woman. While teaching her how to keep everything in balance. And that love may not be always perfect. It is also JUST and that we should always remember our friends regardless of the matters of the heart.
I don't think I can focus much on how the movie is set perfectly but, if I must go into technicalities. I could also share the location and shot angles for this film were definitely amazing. Good job crew! And a huge kudo's to the Director and Actors of this Film.
The Flash(2014)
Flashier than Flash himself
I've read some dissatisfied reviews about flash, but frankly if you watch all the series cross-overs. The whole series makes sense. I love the whole franchise! While, truthfully it may not come close to the actual Barry Allen or Flash from the comics. It does give a new flavored twist, as well as the character build up together with Cisco Ramon and the rest of the characters, you'd come to fall in-love with. Also, not to mention Flash and Super girl's awesome friendship. I couldn't love this show even more. what's left to say?
Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life(2016)
A sixth sense comedy
I read the first review and I must admit-- at first, I had a feeling about expecting a somewhat "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" sort of vibe but, boy oh boy I was wrong. This looks and sounds much better than I expected. The movie itself speaks to me in many levels, bringing me back to my youthful years, and making me feel like I wish I had that much creativity unleashed. What a wonderful, creative and interesting way to portray a wonderful, heart-warming story.
Not to mention, I didn't even see it coming-- the sixth sense reference. I read the blurb/pitch/short-description of the movie and I was ecstatic to find out in the end that "Leo" was actually the younger brother who died.
A very interesting closure for a wonderful movie. Although, I wish I could have seen a bit more of connection between the Rafe's teacher and his mom. Then again, I think this one was already enough.
kudos to the makers of this movie!
hoping to see more like these in the future.
The Help(2011)
The Perfect mix of good humor and slice of life
After watching the full movie in one sitting-- I couldn't help myself but to directly write my thoughts about it. And rarely this happens to me, simply because writing a review for a certain movie would often leave me wondering about what to say about it. However this one, succeeded into making me feel the humor, wonder and closure in one full length film. The Help is as pretty and as lovely as it was engaging for viewers to watch. At first, I didn't really know what to expect, but as the story dived in further, I found myself glued to my seat. Right after, I was informed through the credits that it was based from a novel, which made it all the more exciting. Now, I've gotten myself curious as to how different or similar the book in contrast to the one on screenplay. And to be perfectly honest, if the directors were able to write a screenplay this good, as well as produce a very interesting movie, I think there is a lot more to read about the book. Nonetheless, Emma Stone and the rest of the cast did a wonderful job!
And if I must say, if there are any parts of this movie that I've enjoyed the most-- it would be the black american's perspective and the struggle to find strength just to say that one simple word in the face of adversity. "Eat mah sh#$T"
Overall: Awesome!
Hoping to be able to find more movies like these in the future!
My Little Pony: The Movie(2017)
Pony Beats
I'm an avid fan of MLP-- and am yet to check out their comic strip releases. I suppose, one could say, from season 1 up till season 6. I've grown fondly in-love with all of the characters and their music.
The animation overall was indeed engaging enough for me to watch but, I suppose in terms of story line, it could have been better.
I won't dive into detail with regards to the plot and characters. I'm pretty sure everyone has already said their piece.
All I can say is-- Pony Beats the odds.:) All for one and one for all!
Ballroom e Youkoso(2017)
Dancing in the name of Passion.
I was originally planning on writing a full-dead-on-the-spot review about the whole tv series of this animation but, I realized the manga is still an on-going up till today. The artwork of this animation pretty much reminds me of clamps style with tsubasa chronicles, but the story was pretty interesting as far as I could remember.
The idea of following a protagonist whom later discovers his love and passion for dancing was pretty much what I've been searching for all this time. The cast in pairs and a pretty decent build up when it comes to rivalry and good sportsmanship. However, I would have appreciated it if the animation production had banked upon musical scores for this specific story too. I could barely feel the desire or tunes for this animation. If it weren't for the witty and comical approach of these characters, I suppose I would have long bailed out on this show.
A Quiet Place(2018)
a riveting experience
Suspense, horror and thriller are the three main ingredients to a perfect scare. Interestingly, A quiet place was able to evoke all three with an almost-completely-utterly silent film. I find this experience insanely refreshing for a horror-genre, since at one point it felt reminiscent of the silent film era.
it is indeed a unique and unforgettable experience. A recommended must watch for anyone who is looking for something fresh in the horror-scene.
Winchester(2018)
More disappointing than scary
Honestly, I could give credit to the set design and the whole crew who did their best to make the film look historically accurate. However, I can't say there was anything scary nor was anything new with the plot. Everything was pretty basic and so were the story of love and all the other elements about how to lay a spirit to rest. Yet, I can't help but feel like their were certain rules in the spiritual realm as to how violent a spirit could become once it has been tainted by anger and hate.
seriously, a bullet with together forever used to shoot the ghost and lay him to rest? less explanation and nothing but happy cheers about how the shrink saves the day after his wife gave him clues?
sorry, does it sound more like a rant rather than a review?
I suppose-- the reason here is because I was rooting for this Film and it ended up into nothing. comical as a few would describe it and I'd fairly agree.
The Good Doctor(2017)
visually amazing and a wonderful debut opening
Words cannot express how happy and moved I am for this casting. Wonderful story line and amazing concept. I've been waiting for forever to be able to watch something this good ever since House M.D ended, and truth be told, the firs time I watched the credits roll and episode one began to play right in front of my eyes. I simply found myself sobbing. Granted I was indeed skeptical at first, since I've never watched anything that was as good as Hugh Laurie's acting but, Freddie. He is something. I've been tailing the whole series since it began its debut a few weeks ago, and I must say. I've been looking forward to every episode.
I'm curious as how far the story will dive into. The cases and conflict of characters, didn't feel like it was half baked or researched. All hands up in the air for David Shore's latest produce.
May this show keep moving forward and I hope to see it all the way up till the end.
Riverdale(2017)
fabulous opening
Now this is another way to appreciate the cartoons of my youth. Absolutely fantastic and amazing debut of Riverdale's season 1. I gotta admit, I was indeed skeptical at first, but I'm glad I took a second chance and look at the whole series before passing judgement. I mean, the only reason why I couldn't find the time to watch the series at first was because Archie comics-- specifically from my memory was filled with humor and sarcasm. Granted it was indeed a crime fiction, mystery and romance series. I couldn't imagine how the cast would be in reality. The idea of a live adaptation series isn't really new on the table but, there are comic book stories that simply don't mix well when adapted into reality.
I think, Riverdale made great progress with this debut. The mix of characters from Josie and the pussy cats and who knows what else they'll be throwing in. CW has indeed placed a careful thought on how they would come about and portray this show to the new generation and I would recommend this show to my friends who are looking for a good watch.
I'm not really the type to go on and reveal the whole story and their new found roles but, I am here to say-- JUG HEAD's role was beyond perfect!
I look forward to watching more of season 2 and hopefully the series would bring more interesting writing up to date.
Kokoro ga sakebitagatterunda.(2015)
a taste of spicy sweet twist
When I first saw the title, I have to admit that I had no expectations. Simply because I couldn't read Japanese. However, as a film- enthusiast I'm always the type who would want to venture and explore new films. At the moment, I don't have anything to compare this movie at all. It isn't because I haven't watched enough but rather because its the first kind of animation or story line that I've encountered to be told in such a way. I mean, despite the fairy-tale type introduction. The vibe of the story having a hint of psychological approach was there. Yet, it did not sound or feel grim at all. It felt realistic and true. While others may protest that there are no bad parents, I want to state that there really are. No one is perfect, and Parents are not an exception. There are people, heartless enough to blame there kids for their own faults.
As a fan of Makoto Shinkai films, I am pleased to find another film maker and storyteller to root for from this point onward.
I love the twist of the ending as well. If you don't pay attention of the story and feel like over running the movie with what you perceive you'd definitely miss out the biggest surprise of all. I say big because normally lead characters would often fall for each other. However, in this story. Both don't get their happy endings yet, there is that welcome resolve where you can root for them further. I'm rating this 9 because, I wish to see more. Then again, if I could be more true. It would be a perfect 10. Amazing use of classical music and play script.
Byôsoku 5 senchimêtoru(2007)
Visually heartbreaking
It was one of the first movies that I've watched from Director Makoto Shinkai and as expected as ever coming from Japanese animation the illustrations were fantastic as well as the premise were simple and yet, utterly heartbreaking. The details of the story and how the it progressed was definitely relatable (well, to me I suppose). I think there is much truth to this animation to anyone whom has fallen in-love at one point in their lives. Times change, people change and feelings/emotions change. If you're looking for a feel good movie, I don't really recommend this however, if you're look for a movie that would somehow explain to you the harsh truths of heartbreaks. I suggest you watch this movie (Especially if you're the type that would rather relish under amazing canvas like images to further impact your experience. Not to mention the quote of the film explains the whole story.
Assassin's Creed(2016)
assasined heart
I've only managed to play the game a few times in my younger years and to be honest-- I don't remember it as much due to some circumstances. Regardless of the reasons, I've found a way to rekindle my love for playing games and decided that I should find time to also get to know the story better. Now, I've found the time to watch this movie and all I can say is the graphics and story line was definitely interesting enough. However, there were some parts that felt off or didn't seem to feel right. I can't absolutely point it out but, I must give kudos to how the whole movie was edited to perfection. I really felt like I was watching a game trailer instead of a movie though but, I hope this review passes as something close to a compliment. I suggest to anyone who plans to watch the movie, if you don't have an idea about the movie, am pretty sure you'd enjoy the action and graphics. If you do, and expect a whole lot from the franchise well, I suppose it might disappoint you but then again, I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinions. What really matters is that if you enjoy what you see at one point and focus on it.
Saving Sally(2016)
All is fair in the name of Love and Art
The first time I heard about the film, I thought about the title-- because titles would often give me the clue about what the story is all about. I couldn't think about the plot because it was vague but regardless, it made me all the while curious. So, I dragged my friend with me and we took chances to watch. There we were watching the trailers until the movie began to roll...
Incidentally, I was also a fan of Scott-Pilgrim (the movie) because, I haven't read the comics yet, and so I didn't feel odd or awkward with watching the film itself. The story was in it's own way, brutally honest and close to home. I've been reading more about the making of this film since I watched and I must say, I think am glad I took the time to do so. I could appreciate it even more now-- honestly, I love the hard work and dedication that everyone did for Saving Sally, the original Metro Manila slash Philippine Metropolis touch really made all the difference. I'm hoping that this wouldn't be just the first but, hopefully be one of the igniting 2D animations in the Philippine Animation Film Industry.
My one take thou, is that I hope there were more original sound tracks or OST that could have tug further aside from the visuals but, hey for a budget-close and 10 years in the making film. I say, this deserves a wonderful 10!
good job guys!
Playing It Cool(2014)
playing it cool
Excellent choice of Music selection, love the editing and the cast— wow, I think Chris Evans nailed this one really well. I like the semi- narcissistic introduction of the movie, and I think it really worked well for the overall production of this movie. Story-wise, I've watched a few (okay, maybe not a few but a Ton of Rom-coms) and this one really has a very different feel. The characters were relatable for writers and also to those who want to find another perspective when it comes to love itself. I won't really reveal more about this story but, I will tell you this—it has one of the best romcom scene's that I've ever seen.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children(2016)
Spectacular Presentation
I've always been a Tim Burton fan and this proves it up till today. I may not be able to fully rate this with a perfect 10 (not because it wasn't great or anything) but simply because, I have not read the book yet. However, this feels like it was adapted the way it should be. Hauntingly mesmerizing-- I just can't leave the month without being able to send out a review for this film.
The music, cast and almost everyone that made this film come to life was simply amazing. I think this would be the perfect movie to recommend for horror and fantasy enthusiast. A film filled with horrifyingly warm lesson for everyone that would make you want to read the book as well.
Inside Out(2015)
Feels for feels
Inspiring as it was carefully laid out with amazing story boarding and great choices as a theme. The movie has made a wonderful approach towards explaining the human emotions and the display of change of behavior. Truly educational and a wonderful movie that fits for all viewers for all ages.
If I were to give a few examples of what made this film memorable is the one with Riley's imaginary friend. I loved the idea on how the act of "sacrifice" was incorporated into the story and the lesson of taking responsibility for the actions we take as a person. The story generally portrays how although simple were indeed the best times of their lives.
I think that merely writing a review about this story would not really give enough justice for anyone who wishes to understand how surreal this movie can affect the viewer. If it would be best, I would love to share more about it yet, I guess it's one of those movies that would really make the best to watch it.
Karigurashi no Arietti(2010)
World of wonders
Watching this film was like a package of everything that I loved from Alice and wonderland, The Borrowers (A movie) and Thumbalina adaptations. It was indeed a welcome surprise, surreal to the taste and a spectacular amount of visual content. The cinamatic approach of the animation was amazing. Music selection, and structure all of which was definitely carefully laid out in order to make this animation. I commend Ghibli Studios for another job well done and will continue to root for all of their works in the future.
If you're curious on what this animation movie has to offer, I suggest that you watch it without expecting anything from it and focus on the visuals and story in general. Character developments were simple and yet, without making it difficult for the viewers was indeed able to project the depth of their roles.
please do watch The Secret World of Arriety. One of the amazing films made by these wonderful animators of our time.
Fifty Shades of Grey(2015)
On Mutual Grounds
Okay, let me get a few things straight. I don't want to sound like a know-it all neither would I want to sound like a whiner for things that could not be helped. I guess, the best way would be to give out a better lay-out in hopes that it reaches those who needs to understand this film better than anyone.
On Acting, I think that the film was a disaster. The actors were all good to be perfectly honest, but weren't good enough for their own character development. It's a matter of how much they have been informed or how well they felt like expressing this entire novel into the big screen.
I'd like to note that Christian does not seem like a control freak at all and his appeal lacked too much that even the cinematics couldn't even support it ( well, to be honest. there were very vague that were even present).
The Plot of the story, it does follow the adaptation closely from the book version but there were some hits and miss, but it doesn't really have to be exactly what the book has to offer. if a lot of people who read the book felt like it was a disaster, I wish the screen writers had done a better job at least on giving justice as a guide to the actors.
I also saw someone rating it's romance? honestly, I don't think there was any romance present. Honestly tho, I think I like this better than the twilight scenario with the part that says "I'm not good for you" said by C.Grey, or something like that. On Drama and erotica, I was really rooting for that boat scene that never happened. It explained why exactly Christian grey wanted to beat up brunets. I wonder how they'll be constructing this now that movie 2 has been announced.
On the actual bed scenes, love the camera works there. I'm both wondering whether it was done and do or it was purely the camera tricks. I think I might double check on that first before I say anything but love the amazing visuals but, still I really felt that there was something lacking from there.
Overall. The movie itself could have been better than the Novel (Book version) but for some reasons, I guess it felt all too rushed to even appreciate what was exactly going on within the story.
I think it would have worked better as a direct porn.
Ano hi mita hana no namae o bokutachi wa mada shiranai.(2011)
feel good watch
Now hear me out a little here. I know that to some of you that may have not watched the series but was able to hear or catch a glimpse of reviews about the plot story of this show will probably disagree with the title of my summary but seriously, please allow me to explain myself.
While it is indeed heart-breaking that we are shown a story about a cute little girl dying from a tragic accident, the softness and pastel like color approach of this animation simply allows the viewers to feel the value of friendship and a subliminal message to carry on with life despite the darkness of the story itself.
I think that this is indeed feel good animation movie that was based from the series. The Music and approach explains a lot once your able to finish the whole story in general.
Gekijouban Steins;Gate: Fuka ryouiki no dejavu(2013)
endings & possibilities
I'm not all too familiar with the steins;gate universe just yet, however there are a few things that I can definitely point out. The story line, artwork and music all blended well and I think the production of this franchise was a job well done. Admittedly, I'm the type of person who has one too many interest but, Time travel related stories has never been far away from my top list. It's a pretty complex genre to write and let alone execute due to the constant movements of time. If I could think about explanations that would be near to the concept, I must say that I've fallen in-love with steins;gate's logical views regarding time travel more than I have from the girl who leaped through time. I think the cellphone and microwave won me over than running fast enough to fall into ditches or through a wall.
I love how the characters were build up and the focus on each of their choices that triggers the effects and movements of the story. I think that because these were carefully executed it had made steins;gate in all aspects from one of the reviews from kotaku.
Pan(2015)
Hooking Pan-Fans
The Prequel reboot of J.M Barrie's classic tale of Peter Pan was definitely fresh on the table. Admittedly, it felt more comical and theatrical than the original. Nevertheless, it was a welcome surprise to see the bizarre arrangement of the story, humor and cast.Altogether, I think it was meant for a different audience since the humor felt more close to adult than the youth which makes it very unique.
I would like to also comment on how amazing Hugh Jackman's acting in this movie had been because for the first few minutes of his appearance on screen. I had no idea it was him until I double checked on the movie poster and description.
if there would be a negative comment on this which I highly wouldn't think it to be negative. Hook with the cowboy thematic approach, I'm not so sure if that blended well with the whole romance build with tiger lily and all.
anyhow, cheers and thanks for the amazing show.
