All About Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
Did that cliffhanger ending in 'Across the Spider-Verse' leave you scratching your head? Then, get ready for some SPIDEY SPOILERS as IMDb breaks down what might happen in the threequel, 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse' (2024).
'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' introduces Gwen Stacy, and 'Across the Spider-Verse' fills in her backstory: her fraught relationship with her police chief father, how her Peter Parker died after transforming himself into the Lizard, and why she had to stop traveling to Miles Morales' reality, Earth-1610, to avoid disrupting the multiversal canon. "Canon" refers to how each multiversal timeline should naturally occur. Disruptions cause those jittery glitches and universes to potentially collapse. Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 leads the Spider-Society and protects the multiverse from canon disruptions, which which is why he has beef with Miles Morales, who technically shouldn't exist since the radioactive spider who gave Miles his powers was from Earth-42, and by crossing to Miles' reality, Earth-42 was left without their own Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Instead, Earth-42's Miles is the villainous Prowler, a mantle his Uncle Aaron took up on Earth-1610.
So, Gwen Stacy assembles a team to save Miles, including Peter B. Parker, his baby daughter Mayday, Spider-Punk, Pavitr Prabhakar, Spider-Byte, plus, our old Spider-Pals: Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, and Spider-Ham. These Spider-Heroes will also need to stop the self-appointed nemesis of Miles, the Spot, a former scientist who's covered in interdimensional portals after Miles foils Kingpin's plan in the first film.
And the Spider-Team will likely have to repair all their disruptions to the multiversal canon if they want to make the extremely aggro Spider-Man 2099 get off their backs.
