Spiritual Sequel to "Kabir"
10 October 2024
Dev and Rukmini stuck in a single location with Dev with a gun in his and a major twist waiting at the end. Sounds like Kabir, but its Tekka. The twist you can see from miles coming. If you are wondering if it's part of any shared universe, no, it isn't. The plot is basic and simple. The editing and cinematography are bland. The first half is too slow. The second half picks up the pace but does have glaring plot holes by the end of the movie.

The only positive aspect of this movie is its star cast and their acting. From Dev, Swastika, and Rukmini to Sreeja and Aryan, even Paran Sir and Tota in small roles, everyone has done brilliant. Music is okayish. I just wish the script was much tighter.

Bohurupi doesn't take much "rups"
9 October 2024
Bohurupi centers around Abir on the trail of a Shibu who changes his appearance for each bank heist. While the premise has potential, the execution falls flat, lacking the twists and turns that keep audiences engaged. Unfortunately, the writing and direction do not elevate this intriguing premise. The pacing drags, and the plot feels stretched thin, leading to a rather dull experience.

Ritabhari Chakraborty's performance as the Abir's wife is particularly disappointing, detracting from the film's emotional weight. Her acting feels over-dramatic and uninspired, leaving viewers detached from the story. In contrast, Shibu and Koushani manage to deliver more compelling performances, but even they struggle against the weak script.

Visually, the film resembles a low-budget YouTube production, lacking the polish and creativity that could have made it visually engaging.

In summary, while the concept holds promise, the film ultimately fails to deliver a satisfying viewing experience due to flat performances, a predictable plot, and subpar production quality.

Didn't knew when to laugh
5 September 2024
Any snow which doesn't fall under thriller or crime genre is nowadays considered "comedy". I was truly disappointed with English Teacher. I had high hopes for this supposed comedy, but it fell flat on its face. The jokes were incredibly unfunny, and the characters lacked any depth or charm. The show's premise seemed promising, but the execution was lackluster. I found myself struggling to stay engaged throughout the episodes, and I'm still unsure how so many people thought this was funny. If you're looking for a good laugh, I strongly recommend avoiding English Teacher. I'd much rather watch paint dry than this.

A Batman show with him getting the least screentime
3 August 2024
The first episode was promising. I didn't have a problem with race or gender changed versions of some character. But when I'm watching a Batman show with his name on it, I prefer to watch him or Bruce Wayne for most of the time rather than Gotham PD or Dent. The show focuses lot more on Gotham PD, corruption, Dent's moral compass but not on Bruce Wayne. What made him turn into Batman? Where did he learn to fight like this? Investigation skills? Also he addresses Alfred by "Pennyworth" (though by the end of the series he calls him Alfred) and talk in his Batman voice with him! Even in his House! The only two episodes I enjoyed the most were the one with Gentleman Ghost, bringing in the supernatural corner of the Batman lore and the seventh episode where Dent is on a revenge ride. Hamish Linklater did a good work on Batman, sometimes he feels too closer to Kevin Conroy. Animation is very poor in some places, specially the background structure. Gotham isn't properly shown in any shots. Overall this series could have been better.

Boring
14 June 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Yes. It's boring. Surprisingly. Let me break it down in positives and negatives

Positives -

1. Some jokes. Focus on the word "some" here. Some handful of jokes actually lands.

2. Production value

3. Performances from Jeet and supporting characters

Negatives

1. It's boring as I've said earlier. Many jokes aren't even funny.

2. The plot is not engaging enough. What does Samar wants? He could have easily told his wife and family about the robot (there's a NDA but if he could have told his wife in secret, most of the problems would have solved anyway)

3. Rukmini. Sorry but she overdoes it as Nisha and underplays as Isha.

4. Forced emotional sequences.

That's all.

Stupid and Nonsense
9 June 2024
Amazon Mini Tv should rethink before launching any new series. The plot just happens. It starts off like an usual comedy series and then tries it's hands on romance, crimes, college politics and part thriller. Why?! Be honest to one genre or write it well enough to do justice with the multiple genres! Jokes doesn't land. The leads doesn't look like twenty year olds. Whoever played Mayank did the most overreacting. Piyush guy was okayish but the part where he lectures about being aesthetic doesn't gel well considering he himself was looking shabby. Hina Khan was looking good through out the series but sudden change of motifs behind her character felt forced. Whoever played Niharika, Chakku and Meghnad (the PT teacher) did good. Prahlad Cha from Panchayat was misused unfortunately. Anushka Kaushik character was well..it just exists for some reason. Probably one of the worst series I've ever watched.

The torture to the "Nayan" - the weakest Feluda film
13 May 2024
Nayan Rohosso fails to capture the essence of a compelling detective film. With a weak plotline (the novel was weak anyway, but Sandip Ray didn't change anything or tweak it to make it any better) and uninspired execution, it struggles to engage from start to finish. The performances lack depth (Indranil was better in Hatyapuri but here he wasn't in his form, and same goes for rest of the cast) and the camerawork fails to add any visual interest. Despite its potential, the adaptation falls flat, offering little to redeem itself. Throughout the film, we are left wanting suspense, mystery, and the thrill of solving a case alongside the protagonist. Unfortunately, "Nayan Rohosso" misses the mark entirely, leaving viewers disappointed and unfulfilled. I can't believe Sandip Ray gave us Bombayier Bombetey and Tintorettor Jishu. Overall, it's a forgettable Feluda experience that fails to leave a lasting impression. Sandip Ray should handpick some other director for the next one.

Hoichoi's Routine Family Drama, But This Time With A Little Comedy And Better Performances
15 April 2024
Despite a promising start, Dadur Kirti loses its way quickly, descending into clichéd family melodrama and a disappointingly childish treasure hunt plotline. While the ensemble cast delivers solid performances {specially Paran Bandopadhyay, Kanchan Mullick, Shantilal Mukherjee, Chandreyee, Srijla (except her accent), Satyam did good. However Ritobrata and Averi were severely misused}, the show fails to capitalize on its intriguing premise, leaving viewers longing for more depth and suspense. The initial allure fades rapidly, leaving behind a sense of missed opportunity. Ultimately, Dadur Kirti squanders its potential, settling for mediocrity instead of delivering the gripping narrative it initially promised.

Platinum End (2021–2022)

Riveting Start with a Gripping Villain and Moral Depth, but Falters Pre-Climax
5 March 2024
"Platinum End" delivers a gripping narrative woven with supernatural elements and psychological depth. The series, maintains a compelling blend of suspense and thought-provoking themes. The exploration of human desires, morality, and the consequences of wielding extraordinary powers adds complexity to the storyline. "Platinum End" excels in introducing a compelling first villain, captivating hero development, and thought-provoking moral quandaries. The initial antagonist creates a gripping dynamic, and the hero's journey is engaging, providing viewers with a strong central character. However, the series encounters challenges post the demise of the first major villain. Some viewers may find the episodes that follow lacking in intensity or direction, potentially affecting the overall pacing. Additionally, the climax might not meet the expectations set by the earlier parts of the series, leaving some room for improvement in the resolution of the storyline. Despite these concerns, "Platinum End" remains a thought-provoking experience for those interested in moral dilemmas and supernatural narratives.

Epic Character Growth and Fantasy Lore Shine Despite Pacing Challenges
5 March 2024
Pros of "King's Raid" include its commendable character growth, rich fantasy lore, and the compelling portrayal of threats that add depth to the narrative. The characters' development throughout the series provides a satisfying and immersive experience. The intricate fantasy lore enhances the world-building, making it a captivating setting for the unfolding story. The looming threats contribute to a sense of urgency and tension, keeping viewers invested. On the downside, the anime could have benefited from a shorter episode count. While the storytelling is engaging, some might feel that a more concise approach could have maintained the momentum without unnecessary stretches. Shortening the episode count could have resulted in a more streamlined and tightly-paced narrative, catering to those who prefer a more condensed viewing experience. Overall storytelling and world-building make "King's Raid" a worthwhile anime for fans of the fantasy genre.

Strong Performances and Explosive Scenes Can't Mask Weak Screenplay
26 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Promising performances from the leads and impressive action sequences elevate the movie, but a lackluster screenplay hinders its potential.

Pros:

1. Riveting Performances: The two lead actors deliver compelling performances that add depth to the characters. Jeetu shines his way through his performance of Mannar while Jeet is apt for the role of Arjun but his Victor persona didn't met the actors charisma.

2. Action Prowess: The film boasts well-executed action sequences, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Cons:

1. Lackluster Screenplay: The weak screenplay hinders the overall narrative flow, leaving gaps that could have been filled with a more engaging storyline. How Arjun became Victor and took Mannar's place as the biggest drug kingpin or how Susmita was into the play.

2. Uneven Actress Performance: While the leads shines, Susmita's performance falls short.

3. The BGM: The film's background music is riveting in some parts (during action scenes specially) but the sad background music is a straight ripp off of Jailer's sad music.

In summary, Jeet is going for good scripts, but he needs to select his directors wisely.

A Huge Letdown
23 October 2023
The shared universe is a gimmick. This film can't be a prequel because it creates major loopholes for the other films in the franchise. If you consider that this Probir and Poddar aren't the same Probir and Poddar we have seen before and that this is an alternate take on their characters happening in some other timeline, then it's fine. Coming to the story, Srijit has mastered how to ruin a well-going thriller. A twist everyone saw a mile away coming, but major plotholes there too. Injustice done to Jisshu's character, whose character could've been one of the memorable villains or anti-heroes, is watered down to a forgettable generic villain or psychopath. Performance-wise, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Anirban were excellent and the only redeeming factors in this movie. The camaraderie is presented well. Jaya wasn't in her best form. Jisshu did fine with whatever was given to him. Cinematography and BGM are fine, but too much use of slow motion gets on the nerves. And the CGI at the end is laughable. Shout out to the editor for that crazy cut during the car chase scene, but again, overuse of slo-mo kind of ruined the whole scene.

Partly Engaging Thriller
23 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So if Abir's character has shown the women's photos who work in the president's sister's house and asked who Rabeya is among them to the women they have captured, there wasn't a need for a second half. Abir's character is supposed to be a genius but misses this. During thrilling moments, the movie often cuts between to show what's happening at the president's house, or rather, the conversation between brother and sister. Satyam is arrested, interrogated, and kept on hold, and coincidentally, he gives the major clue to the cops right on the day of Doshomi. This movie rides high on coincidence. Except for performances from every actor and some engaging moments, this movie is absolutely average. Better than Dawshom Obotaar, but that isn't saying much.

Take a break Srijit Da
20 October 2023
Huge letdown. How can someone who claims he is a big fan of the original story make so many drastic changes to the story, especially the climax? And also claiming he tried to be true to the source material. Srijit Mukherji is lately doing so many works that all his works aren't up to the mark. He should focus on quality rather than quantity. For a 6-episode series, it feels slow, and sometimes some scenes feel unnecessary (especially the opening Chiriyakhana scene, taking a jab at the Byomkesh wearing specs for the celluloid). It could have been a four-episode series like Pinjrapol. Performance-wise, except for Anirban, none were memorable. Sohini was a better match for Abir and Riddhima for Anirban. Sohini at times felt more "nyaka" than the recent performance of Rukmini in Satyabati. Rahul was okay-ish. The cinematography is quite good considering it's a web series, but sometimes the production value feels cheap. Overall, the weakest Byomkesh web series, Anirban, might be the best Byomkesh, but Dev's recent Durgo Rohosso had much better execution and experience overall.

Classic example of "How not to direct an action film"
19 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So you've got Statham, Stallone, Lundgren, a bunch of new stars, Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa, and you come up with the most boring drag with dull action sequences. Scott Waugh whose filmography isn't great enough to start with (he made the most boring video game adaptation NFS).

Expendables was supposed to be a throwback to old action movies of Sly and Arnie's. But now its a discount Fast and Furious. Problem is instead of bringing directors who have the love for the action genre of 80s and 90s, but instead of that, they are bringing in new action directors. Like Simon West was a good choice.

Positives - 1. Jason Statham 2. The Opening Action Scene 3. Iko Uwais as the bad guy

Negatives - 1. Too many unnecessary characters who got nothing to do - specially Jacob Scipio, 50 Cents, Levy Tran, and Megan Fox.

2. The predictable fake out death 3. The predictable ending twist 4. Too little Tony Jaa 5. Too short Statham vs Uwais which lasts for only 2 mins.

6. The climax fight 7. Too little action sequences (only 2 major action sequences) 8. Noticable green screen/bad vfx.

If this film wasn't given a proper budget, they should have hired someone credible from Direct to DVD directors like Issac Florentine or William Kauffman. They know how to keep things interesting in a little budget.

Overall a huge disappointment.

Thanks for the spoiler episode titles
28 August 2023
Whoever decided to name the last episode needs a standing ovation! What a way to spoil. Though by episode 6 it was clear who the culprit is.

Pros - Ambarish' acting, short and no boring scenes, all the girls acting (special shout out to the lady police)

Cons - Ushasie needs to work on her acting, Rishav's talent is wasted, the main motive behind the main culprit doesn't make sense, too many side plots or clues which never came into the play again (why Jahnavi said Durba's bf was with her last night, or the whole drug angle), the doctor and how easily he tried to fraud them (after knowing the culprit that also doesn't makes sense), one or two location is repeated again and again.

Beautiful Animation but Yawnfest
24 June 2023
The makers were confused who are their Target audience. Sometimes the characters and dialogues feels its made for kids but then the gore feels its made for adults. The series is mostly about 3 Teenagers running around the skull Island shouting and whining and some mercenaries getting eaten by the creatures who shows up for 3-4 mins. None of the characters are likeable and the plot is boring and messy. But the Animation is absolutely beautiful. The Island, creatures the artwork is amazing. But isn't a great addition to the Monsterverse saga. Also Kong gets very less screentime, but this isn't a Kong show so can't complain.

Thanks for ruining a great story
23 May 2023
Whoever decided to cast a 55 yr old actor as Tenida, hats off to him! Great job! -_- You dont need a thin looking comedian for Tenida and replicate Chinmoy's persona, just read the novel or even watch the cartoons! A normal person bit older than the other three would have been sufficient. Get someone from serial if you need to. Also modernizing the stories in current settings is also ruining the flavour of what made them special in the first place. Just adapt them on their time period. That being said, they decided to not only modernize it but make huge changes to the plot's second half (taking some inspiration from Neel o Jogada Gokhro Diper Rohosso, uncredited obviously). No jokes land, no characters makes us laugh, no chemistry between the four friends. Tenida and Kyabla gets the most screentime making the other two just an extra and nothing to do. Sabyasachi Chakroborty was good in whatever screentime or role he had. Kanchan and Gaurav did good ngl but looked too old to play this characters. The cinematography is great, and the whole mystery part was good too though predictable. The background score is horrendous and annoying. I'll rather watch Charmurti again or that Zee Bangla cartoon than this one. And for future filmmakers who ever want to adapt it again, adapt faithfully.

Only if the runtime was shorter
21 April 2023
Chengiz is better than most of the masala movies from Bengal came out in recent times. The camerawork, the colour correction, production design - the whole technical team did their best. Jeet as usual doesn't disappoint as the lead, hus charisma carries the whole show. Rohit Roy is commendable too. I wish Shataf had a bigger role and was the main antagonist. Susmita is, well, she is there. The story is done to death, the action scenes looks good but isn't something very new. The first half is very gripping, but it's the second half which loses the steam. The film becomes a tad boring, with very bland antagonists. The runtime is 2 hrs 30 mins but if the second half was edited better, the film could have been easily done in 2hrs and wouldn't have felt dragged. Watch it if you are craving for some old school gangster films.

One of Stupidest Movie I've Seen
12 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I start - if a classic case of plot holes filled movie list is ever made, this one will be there for sure. A simple plot is overly complicated, shootouts every 20 mins which becomes noise after a time and twists which aren't justified.

Ajith plays his part well, cant complain from him. He does what director wants him to do. But at this stage he should select better scripts now. Rest of the cast is forgettable.

The colour palate is very dull and whitish makes the poor vfx look much poorer. Bgm is nice, but songs aren't required but are placed anyway. The shootouts looks very fake.

Now the plot holes - 1. How Ajith knew every minor details of the bank fraud, like Antony tried to save those three guys? 2. Why the cops or anti terrorist unit would shoot RPG in a hostage filled bank, or even shoot blindly? 3. Manju gets shot thrice, gets hit by a truck, rolls over from the hill, and still survives? 4. Why would Sam and Krish send two teams to do the job?

Absolutely for Time Pass
10 December 2022
Does it offer something new? No. Does it follow the usual good guy vs bad guy? Yes. But still is engaging, feels like old massy movies, and DSP's winning bgm. Ram as usual is charismatic in his performance, Aadhi is brutul as the bad guy. Krithi Shetty looks sweet but nothing more than a love interest. The cinematography and colour palate is good, but the action sequences are same old and done to death and boring.

You can watch it absolutely for Ram, or if you don't have anything else to watch ot if its airing on tv. Its a fun one time watch, takes you back to the mid 2010s era of massy films.

An exposition filled boring adventure
10 October 2022
Just when I thought nothing could be worse than Kakababu Prottaborton, comes this. This one is the worse one of the Guptodhon series, and ironically grossing better than the other ones. The film is filled with exposition after exposition, factual errors, cartoonish villains, no real stake, no adventure and bad cgi. Abir looks suave and can play these roles in his sleep with ease now. Arjun isn't loud as its previous installment, but doesn't add anything to the plot rather than have a half baked romantic sub plot with Ishaa who looks good onscreen. Rajatava Dutt does justice to the role given to him but its the writing which makes his dreaded character cartoonish, and so does Sourav's character. Cant say anything about cinematography as its repeating itself now, each film looks the same (and Tansener Tanpura from Hoichoi too looks the same). Skip it and dont waste your money. Wait for the OTT release if you want to watch it.

Finally a good episode!
29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Thanks to Zeb Wells and his history with comic books, a good episodes finally without the baggage of annoying supporting casts (looking at you Nikki and Pug), this episode focuses more on the Jen side and how she wants to be looked and use She Hulk as a protective shield. The therapy session works really well with newly introduced characters from comics - Man Bull, El Aguila, Porcupine and Saracen. Tim Roth surely does having a good time with a different take on Abomination and love how he helps Jen with her dilemma. Only problem is that the episodes are too little, like around 25 mins and the sub plot progresses a little.

Very Lame Way to become She Hulk
18 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
So just a drop of Bruce's blood falls on Walters' cut and she becomes She Hulk. Wow! And then she can control her powers. Like it isn't a big deal. Titania and She Hulk have a small fight and so quickly edited that the punch doesn't even land on her face.

Only good things were Bruce conversation with Walters, all Hulk scene and Maslany and Ruffalo chemistry. Vfx is okay if not great. Music is good.
