Allison Williams Almost Wasn’t Marnie

Allison Williams wasn’t the first choice to play Girls’ resident uptight pretty person. Lena Dunham wanted to cast her own personal best friend and Marnie, Audrey Gelman. Williams and Gelman revealed this kinda unsurprising Casting Fact at a Marie Claire lunch celebrating the “new guard” of influential women. (It was a whole set of Marnies over there, fictional and otherwise.)

Gelman turned down the role so that she could continue to work for comptroller candidate Scott Stringer as his spokesperson and focus on matching her dress to the wallpaper in a New York Times profile entitled “Audrey Gelman, the Girl Most Likely ”[Fill in the Blank But Make Sure It Sounds It-Girl-ish].
