Celebrities Remember Shannen Doherty

Shannen Doherty passed away on Saturday after battling breast cancer for nine years. Her publicistsaidshe “was surrounded by her loved ones” when she died at her home in Malibu. She was 53 years old.

Doherty, best known for her roles as an often rebellious teen onBeverly Hills, 90210,Charmed,andHeathers,wasdiagnosedwith breast cancer in 2015. She revealed in 2017 that she wasin remission,but thecancer returnedtwo years later. In June 2023, she said that it had spread to her brain, and later that it had reached her bones. In November, she launched herpodcast,Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty.At the time, she toldPeopleshe started the show because “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.”

On Sunday,Kevin Smith,who directed Doherty in 1995’sMallrats,described her as an “American icon.” Other tributes poured in from Doherty’s friends and co-stars, includingCharmedco-star Alyssa Milano and90210castmates Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, and Brian Austin Green. “Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen,” Priestley, who played Doherty’s twin brother on90210,wrote on Instagram.“She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”

Milano, who starred inCharmedwith Doherty and famously had a tense relationship with the actress, issueda statement toVarietyabout Doherty’s passing. “It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of. She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
