The video, which has gone viral across social media, shows the unlucky workman bent down as he inspects the puddle.

But without any warning he is dumped into the chilly water by the back of the scoop on the digger.

Squealing in shock as he clambered out of the puddle he shouted back at his colleague operating the machinery: "Ye bastard ye. You're a f****** c***"

Another joked: "We all know a few lads we’d love to do this to".

While a third wrote: "Been in the business for 44 years. Like a cat, I learned early on never to give someone the plumbers crack view unless you trust them implicitly."

But other called for the digger driver to be punished over the prank.

One replied: "I take it the machine driver got sacked?".

A second hit out: "That is an arrest-able offence in all states of Australia with massive liabilities on the business and person responsible. Safety is no joke."

And a third said: "Not funny in the slightest."
