Ford has released a pair of snaps of its upcoming electric SUV.

The photos were sent out via an unusual interactive advert placed in a number of print publications.

Running under the title of "comeback cars" it quoted Manchester United's Eric Cantona saying: "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea.

“Now, throw these images in the online sea and find out who follows."

The listing then asked readers to text the word 'comeback' to a dedicated WhatsApp profile.

Those who did were rewarded with two snapshots of the car, showing its front right and rear left corners.

According to reports from Autocar, the motor is set to be the first to bear the Capri name since 1986.

The model is one of the most celebrated and popular in history, enjoying a near 20-year production run before being scrapped.

Now, though, the company is set to unveil what is expected to be a new incarnation within days.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the July 10 reveal date.

A brief history of fast Fords

The new EV is expected to line up alongside the Explorer in Ford's e-SUV range.

Reports suggest that it was meant to launch only six months after its sister car, which went on sale in 2022, but was delayed so that the company could overhaul the battery pack.

It comes after rivals Volvo performed a U-turn on its decision to discontinue a whole lineup of its cars, with two models returning to the UK from this month.
