After Rangers lost 2-1 to Ajax in their second pre-season friendly of their Netherlands training trip, Clement admitted he'd have to sell before he could buy, such was the financial constraints at Ibrox.

He's already seen Robby McCrorie depart to Kilmarnock and brought in six new recruits to his Gers squad including Jefte, Clinton Nsiala and the returning Liam Kelly.

Now a deal completed almost a YEAR ago could help his next moves in re-moulding the blue half of Glasgow.

Euorpa League hero Glen Kamara joined Leeds United in a £5m deal on deadline day last summer.

Rangers saw the Finnish midfielder blow a deal bonus worth £500,000 when he and his Yorkshire team-mates missed out on Premiership promotion.

However add-ons inserted into the deal could now wind their way back to the Ibrox accounts.

A sell-on percentage - believed to be 10 per cent of any future profits - was part of the deal structure taking Kamara to Elland Road.

But his stay in the Championship could be a short one, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealing a deal to take him to Rennes in Ligue 1 is close.

The fee is reported to be in the region of €10m meaning Gers WILL land a portion of the profit.

While not as much as the £10m fees quoted by OGC Nice when the Finn was still a Rangers star, it will soften the blow of missing the promotion bonus for the cash-strapped club.

Clement set alarm bells ringing on Saturday evening when he admitted his hands were tied in the transfer market.

He said: “That’s the reality. That’s the reality that the board told me a few months ago.

“I know this, the recruitment team knows this also. This is the reality of the club.

“I had other expectations when I came in in October, I have to say.

“But I know the reality now. I am very motivated to build the club and help in that.

“It’s focusing not only on the short term but also on the long term.

“If I only looked at the short term I would only bring in experienced players who can do the job directly.

“Mistakes like that have been made too much in the past and at the end you don’t reach your goals.

“You need a different philosophy and that’s what we are all working towards.

"This is a massive rebuilding job, it is true.

“Maybe some people would run away from that but, having been seven months in Glasgow, in this city, in the stadium, in the club, I have to say this club already took a big part of my heart in that way.

“I am really confident that we can work in stability the next months, the next years, that we can make a lot of things better in the club.

“It is all over the club that everybody is working really hard to make things better.

“In the end, it will benefit the cause of growing as a club.”
