IT’S England vs Spain for Euro 2024 glory later today – but in Romania all the focus has been on another big match of the day.
Taking centre stage was Rangers’ forward Ianis Hagi who tied the knot with sweetheart Elena in a ceremony that was broadcast live on Romanian TV.
The 25-year-old has been granted an extended break by Gers boss Philippe Clement after helping his national team reach the last 16 of the Euros where they lost to the Netherlands.
He chose to make the most of the time off by getting married in a glitzy ceremony that was broadcast live to the entire nation.
And it’s claimed that broadcaster Direct paid more than £200,000 for those exclusive rights.
Watching on proudly was dad, Georghe, a legend in Romania and considered their greatest ever player – making the entire Hagi family household names and treated like celebrities.

Hagi actually got officially married in a civil ceremony last Christmas Day – with this the religious element of the nuptials seven months later.
On his marriage, he said: “I have friends and acquaintances, each with their own story in life.
“The important thing is to have respect, to love each other, I think these are the most important principles.
“Then the connection you have with your partner. We had a connection, as Elena said, from day one.

“I knew it was not a relationship of children. I felt a strong emotion and knew we had to take it step by step, get to know each other.
“Otherwise you get into a relationship when you know it can mean something for a lifetime. And we felt this.”
One Romanian journalist claimed it was bigger than the Euro 2024 final.
Emanuel Rosu wrote on X: “We have our final in Romania today. Ianis Hagi is getting married.”
The player spent all of last season on loan at Alaves in Spain and it’s not certain what the future holds for him at Rangers.
But his agent Giovanni Becali said recently he expects his client to return to Ibrox in the first instance
He said: "He has a contract with Rangers and I think he will start training with them.
“I hope that the coach will continue to consider him (as part of the first-team squad).”
