Como have denied that their player racially abused the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan during a friendly on Monday and blamed their opponents for “blowing the incident out of proportion”.

Wolves are to submit a formal complaint to Uefa over the alleged incident, which led to Daniel Podence being sent off for throwing a punch in the mêlée that followed.

Gary O’Neil, the Wolves head coach, revealed that Hwang then convinced his team-mates to finish the match in Marbella and in a statement, released late on Monday evening, the club condemned the behaviour and said that they would seek further punishment.
