In January 2024, thepostponed-due-to-strikes 2023 Emmys happened,despite the fact that it was, again, 2024 and some of the shows being celebrated came out in 2022. Now, the actual 2024 Emmys are en route. This ceremony will celebrate the releases from June 2023 through May 2024 — which means the much-acclaimed second season ofThe Bearwill get its time in the sun before thetepidly receivedseason three gets awardednext year.It’s all very confusing, we know. Still, it’s nice to have the TV awards show back on track and, notably, not occurring in the middle of awards season again. That was all too much. When will the 2024 Emmy nominations be announced?
Before we get into any awarding, we’ve got to get our nominations in order. The noms will be revealed on Wednesday, July 17, by two previous Emmy winners: Tony Hale (Veep) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary). “While this year has been marked by significant challenges for our industry and its workforce, there has been an abundance of remarkable programs, extraordinary performances, and impactful storytelling,” TV Academy chair Cris Abrego said in a statement on June 28. “Great television relies on the contributions of so many, and we are delighted to have Tony and Sheryl help us acknowledge excellence across our field as we embark on a season of tremendous celebration.” We can’t wait to see Ralph’s reaction live when she getsanotherAbbottnomination.(Or even her reaction if she… doesn’t. When are the actual 2024 Emmys?
The Emmys will air from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, and the ceremony will stream the next day on Hulu. A host has not been officially announced, but if it wants to truly reflect the year in TV, ABC will finally let RuPaul host. He’s won eight bajillion Emmys already — now just pay the queen and she’ll turn it out!
