NDL to VIAF
[edit]NDL identifiers (Property:P349) are convertible to VIAF identifiers (Property:P214) using a web service. We takeQ140694(Alexis de Tocqueville) as an example.
NDL identifier for Tocqueville is 00458854 (Seehttp://id.ndl.go.jp/auth/ndlna/00458854for the source.). The URLhttp://viaf.org/viaf/sourceID/NDL%7C
followed by an NDL identifier, i.e.http://viaf.org/viaf/sourceID/NDL%7C00458854in this case, redirects to a corresponding VIAF entry,http://viaf.org/viaf/66474207/in this case. Hence, we find VIAF identifier matching NDL 00458854 for Tocqueville is 66474207. --F705i(talk)12:06, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
VIAF to NDL
[edit]VIAF identifiers (Property:P214) are now convertible to NDL identifiers (Property:P349) using a web service, since the National Diet Library of Japan is a participant in VIAF since October 2012. We takeQ140694(Alexis de Tocqueville; VIAF 66474207) as an example.
To get NDL number in a human readable way is trivial. By accessinghttp://viaf.org/viaf/66474207/we find a link to NDL entry right next to the flag of Japan.
To get the NDL number in a more machine-friendly format is as follows. Suppose that your bot knows VIAF identifier for Tocqueville is 66474207. If your bot accesseshttp://viaf.org/viaf/66474207/justlinks.jsonwith HTTP GET method, the following JSON is returned.
{ "viafID": "66474207", ... "NDL":[ "00458854" ], ...}
Hence your bot finds NDL identifier corresponding VIAF 66474207 for Tocqueville is 00458854. --F705i(talk) 12:40, 14 October 2013 (UTC) (correctionF705i(talk)12:45, 14 October 2013 (UTC))
SPARQL endpoint
[edit]The National Diet Library of Japan (NDL) offers a SPARQL endpoint. For example, the following SPARQL query to the endpoint returnsAlexis de Tocqueville’s year of birth (The number 00458854 is the NDL identifier for him.).
PREFIX rda: <http://RDVocab.info/ElementsGr2/> SELECT?y WHERE { "http://id.ndl.go.jp/auth/entity/00458854" rda:dateOfBirth?y.}
The endpoint URL ishttp://id.ndl.go.jp/auth/ndla/(as of 2013). The query string must be as follows:query=
⟨SPARQL in URL-encoded form⟩&output=
⟨output format⟩where⟨output format⟩must be any one ofhtmltab
,xml
,json
,plain
,orphp_ser
.Example queries areTocqueville’s year of birth in an HTML table formatandthe same in an XML format.
The RDF model for NDL authority control data is described athttp://iss.ndl.go.jp/ndla/model/(only in Japanese); some example queries are given athttp://iss.ndl.go.jp/ndla/sparql/(only in Japanese). --F705i(talk)13:35, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
constraint report relating toWikimedia disambiguation page(Q4167410)
[edit]Ifinstance of(P31)is aWikimedia disambiguation page(Q4167410)the presence ofNDL Authority ID(P349)is prohibited.
- see:Wikimedia disambiguation page (Q4167410) with NDL identifier (P349)gangLeriלערי ריינהארט(talk)15:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
(cc: @Josve05a) Usualy there might be two possibilities:
- a) please identify the non - ambiguation page (WD item) where the propertyNDL identifiershould be moved;
"normally"no other statements should be left at the disambiguation page;
it can happen that a set of properties should be moved to another (a second) WD item, another set to a third WD item etc. - b) verify which language is a disambiguation page and separate it from the rest; please useGadget-labelLister.jscan be activated atpreferences#gadgetsto remove all faulty descriptions after the disambiguation page is separated (the languages are de, en, fr, es, pt, pt-br, ru, sv and possibly some others).
Thanksin advance! gangLeriלערי ריינהארט(talk)21:28, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
Wrong regular expression
[edit]NDL Authority ID(P349)ofCao Zhiyun(Q5034346)isa1100032495,which does not meet0?\d{8}
.--ThẩmTrừngTâm✉05:44, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- True. However, the vast majority matches
0?\d{8}
(only 3 exceptions in wikidata: 2 matcha11\d{8}
,1 matchs\d{8}
), so removing the constraint is not appropriate. It would be better to modify the matching pattern to include such cases, but I'm not sure what exactly is the ID scheme. Parhaps,(0?|a11|s)\d{8}

Japanese/English label for this property
[edit]In the web interface and the help documents ofWeb NDL Authorities,the identifier is called as "Điển 拠ID" in Japanese[1]and "Authority ID" in English[2].So, in my opinion, it is preferable that the labels for this property use these expressions.Mzaki(talk)08:35, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
Using with qualifiersstart time(P580)&end time(P582)
[edit]Some editors qualifyNDL Authority ID(P349)statements withstart time(P580)&end time(P582)to indicate name changes of the real-world entity, but it is wrong in my opinion.
- Bothstart time(P580)&end time(P582)are defined withinstance of(P31)Wikidata qualifier restricting a statement time-wise(Q115429021),so these restrict validity of the statement if added as a qualifier.
- Change of organization name may lead to two authority entries mapped for single wikidata item (e.g.Canon Inc.(Q62621)NDL Authority ID(P349)00628417for キヤノンカメラ chu thức hội xã &Canon Inc.(Q62621)NDL Authority ID(P349)00289827for キヤノン chu thức hội xã, reflecting the name change in 1969)
- We may makename(P2561)orofficial name(P1448)statements withstart time(P580)&end time(P582)qualifiers for such name change. It's OK.
- Some people want to addstart time(P580)&end time(P582)toNDL Authority ID(P349)statement in a similar manner. This is problematic.
- If we claimCanon Inc.(Q62621)NDL Authority ID(P349)00628417
end time(P582)"1969",for example, it means ID 00628417 was valid until 1969 and is no more valid now. Butthe book written about キヤノンカメラ chu thức hội xã in 1962still exists in the library, and librarian adds ID 00628417 as a Subject Heading for this book. Evidently & naturally, ID 00628417 is valid after the name change. - In fact, ID 00628417 was created in 1998, i.e.,Canon Inc.(Q62621)NDL Authority ID(P349)00628417
start time(P580)"1998",although this claim would make little sense.
