Also, this property will be used in the recordings of Wikimedia Commons to link them to their corresponding entities in LinguaLibre (for those who don't know, the recordings that are created through Lingua Libre are stored in Wikimedia Commons, so the files are in Commons, but they have an entity in Lingua Libre). |
Number of IDs in source | 720 languages (proof here) and 667484 recordings (proof here) |
Formatter URL | https://lingualibre.org/wiki/$1 |
Motivation
[edit]Lingua Libre (Q60024037) is well known among language enthusiasts. As far as I know, Lingua Libre has an item for each language someone has created a recording in. Therefore, this property would be used in multiple languages.
Lingua Libre (Q60024037) has been promoted by Lydia Pintscher (Q18016466) in WikidataCon 2019 (Q42449814). Here's the link to that part.

Discussion
[edit]- Support however the label should perhaps indicate this is just for languages? "Lingua Libre Language ID"? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:34, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
- Why limit it to languages though? That would limit us to linking 717 items, when it could otherwise be used for the tens of thousands of references like Q60386475#P443 and the several hundred thousand audio files in commons:Category:Lingua Libre pronunciation. For the record: I would be opposed to creating a property only for languages - there are not enough items where that would be useful, especially when Lingua Libre already contains links from their items to ours (and they even have a SPARQL query service which can be used in federated queries). - Nikki (talk) 08:59, 17 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Nikki: But the other items in Lingua Libre are all audio files are they not? What other items could we actually link to where there's an existing Wikidata item to link to? ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:18, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- Why should we not use it to link to items for audio files? - Nikki (talk) 05:53, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Nikki I don't get it. What could make an audio file notable enough to deserve its own item? Do we have any other files from Commons that have items already? Ainali (talk) 08:01, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not saying there should be items in Wikidata. I'm saying it makes sense to link to items in Lingua Libre in the examples I gave in my first comment. - Nikki (talk) 12:46, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Ainali: I think Nikki refers to storing the LinguaLibre identifiers for the recordings in the structured data at Wikimedia Commons (for those who don't know, the recordings the users create at LinguaLibre are actually stored in Wikimedia Commons). Either Nikki referred to this or not, this is still useful, so this property shouldn't be limited to LinguaLibre languages. --- Rdrg109 (talk) 01:15, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

- Support, an important property for the Internet.--Arbnos (talk) 14:49, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- Please tell how many language ID you forecast, please tell the total number of ID, please ping project languages. 2A01:CB14:D52:1200:85D6:2490:321C:CF55 11:19, 24 December 2021 (UTC)
- You can get the entire list of languages that exist in LinguaLibre with this query. As of the of writing, there's a total of 720 languages.
- It is worth mentioning that there exists a property in LinguaLibre for storing the Wikidata QID for a given language. For example, here's the item for Spanish in LinguaLibre, as you can see there, it has a property whose value is Spanish (Q1321).
- PS: A project has been pinged --- Rdrg109 (talk) 02:23, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
- Support Ah, I now see how this could be used, and the new examples for the items on LinguaLibre were really helpful. Support for this! Ainali (talk) 12:05, 12 February 2022 (UTC)

- Support the first 4 examples are a bit low-value (this data can already easily be found with a query on LinguaLibre SPARQL endpoint ; there was also the idea of deleting the languages item on LinguaLibre to directly use the Wikidata items), the 3 last examples are here the real value is I think.
