Abstract: The nonlinear evolution of the magnetorotational instability (MRI) is investigated using local 3D MHD simulations. Taking account of the low ionization fraction of the disk, the induction equation includes both ohmic dissipation and the Hall effect. The critical magnetic Reynolds number for significant turbulence and angular momentum transport is obtained numerically. We apply our numerical results to protoplanetary disks and discuss possible evolutions of the disks.
