On June 22, the opening ceremony of the Lhasa First Sports Games for Farmers and Herdsmen was held on the stadium of the Lhasa Mass Culture and Sports Center.

On June 23, the preliminary contest and final of the yak race were held on the race course. The atmosphere on site was warm and people constantly cheered. The yak race is a traditional sporting event of the Tibetan nationality.

Experienced herdsmen ride yaks in the race. During the race, the herdsman riders line up at the starting line. After an order is issued, they set off on the yaks at a gallop. The winner is the one who reaches the finishing line first.
