More than 20 Indians have died as scorching heat continues to wreak havoc in many states of India, New Delhi-based media house NDTV reported on Friday.

Fifteen people died in the Aurangabad district of India's eastern state of Bihar and another 10 died in Rourkela city of Odisha state due to heat waves, according to the report.

Some media outlets even put the death toll in Bihar alone as high as more than 50, but there is no official confirmation yet.

Parts of northwest and central India have been experiencing heat wave to severe heat wave conditions for weeks, and the temperature in Delhi's in Mungeshpur neighborhood reached a record high of 52.9 degrees Celsius (127.22°F) on Wednesday.
