Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in first place at 38.68 percent, with half of the votes counted in India's election, national election commission data showed Tuesday. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is projected to cross the majority mark of 272 seats in the 543-member-strong Lok Sabha, albeit significantly short of the landslide majority predicted by exit polls on June 1.
