Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet on Wednesday submitted their resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, the presidency said in a statement.
"The President accepted the resignation and requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new government is formed," according to the statement.
It is customary for the prime minister and cabinet to resign before the next government is formed in the country.
Modi is expected to be sworn in for a third term on June 8 after India's ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured a majority of the seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, winning the 2024 Indian general elections.
