ACM TURC 2024 Held in Changsha

The ACM Turing Award Celebration Conference China 2024 (ACM TURC 2024) opened in Changsha on July 5.

The conference was hosted by ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) and CCF (China Computer Federation), and organized by the Changsha Municipal People's Government and Hunan University (HNU). The Hunan Department of Science and Technology, Hunan Association for Science and Technology, and Changsha Bureau of Science and Technology offered guidance for the conference.

Zhou Haibing, vice governor of Hunan Province and mayor of Changsha, expressed his congratulations on the conference being held in Changsha. HNU President Duan Xianzhong delivered a welcome speech. Li Kenli, executive chairman of the conference and director of the National Supercomputing Center in Changsha, briefed on the situations of the conference on behalf of the organizing committee. Liu Yunhao, honorary chairman of the ACM China and dean of GIX at Tsinghua University, presided over the conference.

On behalf of ACM, ACM President Yannis Ioannidis congratulated on the opening of the conference. Vinton Cerf, a winner of the Turing Award, Prof. Mei Hong, chairman of ACM China Steering Committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Prof. Liao Xiangke, chairman of the steering committee of the conference and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), attended and addressed the opening ceremony. He Jifeng, Zhang Pingwen, Gui Weihua, Song Junqiang, Liu Yongjian, and Wang Yaonan, academicians of CAS and CAE, and other prominent scholars were also present at the opening ceremony.

Founded in 1946, ACM is the world's largest professional academic organization in the field of computing. So far, ACM TURC has been held for five sessions, respectively in Shanghai, Chengdu, Hefei and Wuhan. Tens of thousands of people in computer, AI, and other relevant fields have participated in the previous sessions. This year's conference was themed "Instrumented, Interconnected, Intelligent, and Integrity". Academic experts and professors from home and abroad were invited to give keynote speeches, share their views on cutting-edge technologies and AI, and discuss the future of computational science. There were nine ACM China SIGCSE symposiums, Operating System for Ubiquitous Intelligent Computing Workshop, Ali Cloud Forum, JD Logistics Embodied Artificial Intelligence (EAI) Summit Forum, as well as expert lectures oriented to young researchers, a forum for young scholars, and ACM China Eminent Scholars Forum—a brand-new academic event initiated by ACM China.

The conference lasted until July 7. During the conference, the participants took part in a variety of technical exchanges and professional forums, shared experiences and opinions, and exchanged views on cutting-edge scientific research and technology in the field of information. ACM TURC is a grand event in the field of computing, and will inject new impetus and vitality into the development of the field.
