The deep-rooted friendship between the Filipinos and the Chinese was recognized and reinforced on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of China-Philippines diplomatic ties and the 23rd China-Philippines Friendship Day.

On June 9, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Cebu, the Association for Philippines-China Understanding (APCU) Cebu, and Cebu-Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and local schools joined hands to commemorate the significant occasion.

Esteemed officials from the Cebu Provincial Government, the Cebu City Government, the Department of Education and the Filipino-Chinese community reaffirmed their commitment to friendship and stronger bilateral relations during the event held at the Cebu-Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce Social Hall.

Consul General Zhang Zhen recalled the history that two countries signed the joint communique in 1975, emphasized the importance of staying faithful to the solemn commitments of One China Principle and respect each other’s territorial integrity. Zhang pointed out that China and the Philippine's relations need to be guarded by contemporary people and passed on to future generations.

Teachers and students gave performances as part of the program, featuring music and dances from China and the Philippines. The commemoration also showcased a photo exhibition entitled "China-Philippines Friendship Through the Lens of History".
