"Training Course for the UNSC Resolution 1540 Implementation for Points of Contact in the Asia-Pacific Region" Opens

On June 25, 2024, the "Training Course for the UNSC Resolution 1540 Implementation for Points of Contact in the Asia-Pacific Region", jointly held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the United Nations Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004) (referred to as the 1540 Committee) and United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, opened in Beijing.

In his keynote speech, Director-General of the Department of Arms Control of the Foreign Ministry Sun Xiaobo elaborated on China's positions and propositions on strengthening global security governance and addressing global non-proliferation challenges from the perspective of implementing the Global Security Initiative, and called on the international community to take the 20th anniversary of the adoption of Resolution 1540 as an opportunity to promote the establishment of a fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory non-proliferation export control order.

United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Nakamitsu Izumi delivered a video speech. Chair of the United Nations Security Council 1540 Committee Ambassador José Javier De La Gasca and officials of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and the Delegation of the European Union to China delivered speeches. Representatives from 27 countries in the Asia-Pacific region and 14 international organizations and institutions attended the training course.
