As part of commissioning Brazil’s largest gas power plant—incorporating numerous GE-designed systems—for operation, power company CELSE commissioned GE CS to conduct a pre-operational electromagnetic transient (EMT) study to assess the impact that connecting the plant to the 500kV transmission grid would have.

The study’s final issue and additional grid code compliance tests GE CS conducted enabled the plant to commence commercial operation, resulting in an estimated $800K(US) in daily revenue for the power company.

ENGIE commissioned an extensive assessment to evaluate the potential risk of subsynchronous torsional interactions (SSTI) between the Pampa Sul power plant and the Melto HVDC Back-to-Back (BtB) facility located in Uruguay. This assessment was indispensable for securing authorization for the commercial operation of the Pampa Sul plant.

GE Vernova Consulting Services conducted a thorough and comprehensive analysis, proposing viable strategies for the mitigation of the SSTI phenomenon and the protection of the turbine shaft. This study enabled ENGIE to formulate the necessary strategies to address SSTI, thereby reinforcing the credibility and collaborative efforts between GE, ONS, and ENGIE.
