Hebei province,which surrounds the national capital Beijing, covers a total area of 188,800 square kilometers. The provincial capital Shijiazhuang is 283 km from Beijing, which lies to the north. The province adjoins Tianjin and the Bohai Sea in the east and the provinces of Shangdong and Henan in the south. It lies along the Taihang Mountains, neighbors Shanxi province in the west, and has a common boundary with Inner Mongolia autonomous region in the north and Liaoning province in the northeast.
